Conditions We Treat

TMJ Dysfunction

Jaw pain, clicking, limited mouth opening — TMJ dysfunction affects quality of life in ways that are easy to underestimate until you're living with it.

TMJ Dysfunction

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint connecting your jaw to your skull. When it's functioning properly, you don't think about it. When it's not, it can produce a range of symptoms that significantly affect daily life: jaw pain and clicking, limited mouth opening, headaches, ear pain, neck pain, and facial aching.

TMJ dysfunction is common — and commonly undertreated or treated in isolation. The jaw doesn't function independently from the rest of the head and neck, and effective treatment recognizes that relationship.

How We Treat It

Our approach to TMJ dysfunction integrates chiropractic care of the cervical spine and cranium with craniosacral therapy — a gentle, highly effective technique for releasing the soft tissue restrictions that contribute to TMJ dysfunction. We also address the muscular component with soft tissue therapy targeting the muscles of mastication.

Drs. Karis Cooper and Alyssa Balducci-Wilson have particular expertise in TMJ dysfunction and craniosacral therapy. Patients who have struggled to find relief through dental appliances or other interventions often experience significant improvement with this integrated approach.
