Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Pain Relief

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the wrist and into the hand and fingers. The Most common causes of CTS are activities that put stress on the wrist by requiring repetitive flexion and extension of the wrist in unsupported or improperly supported positions such as typing on a keyboard. This stress causes inflammation, swelling, and eventually the production of scar tissue in the wrist. These tendons along with the median nerve pass through the wrist into the hand under a tunnel made by the carpal bones. The swelling and scar tissue create less room for the median nerve and eventually start to squeeze it. This squeezing causes inflammation to the nerve, which results in pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the wrist, hand and fingers. This condition does have a genetic predisposition because some people have narrower carpal tunnels than others.

Chiropractic treatment helps CTS by breaking up the scar tissue, removing the adhesions between carpal bones, and decreasing the inflammation to the area, which allows the nerve to heal. Then exercises are given to strengthen and support the wrist so the condition does not reoccur. Remember, most cases of CTS respond to conservative chiropractic treatment; so before going into surgery, try chiropractic first, because surgery does not have a 100% success rate.
